TOEM is a top-down shooter set in a sci-fi inspired environment. The goal of the game is to protect the Alpha Centauri Ocean from an alien menace, as you slowly fall deeper and deeper into a mysterious and vast ocean.
Gameplay
Movement & Combat
As you journey along your underground adventures you’ll meet creatures that you can either kill or use to your advantage. The food system is your main means of staying alive. Every time you eat a creature you’ll be given a boost in movement, while also unlocking more food as you level up. Overuse of food will naturally kill the creatures you’re feeding, but if you plan ahead and keep a food stash nearby, you can avoid this.
Combat is where TOEM’s heart lies. Two weapons can be used at once. The alien creatures are a different color to human players, so use this to your advantage. The alien will reach the top of its air wave while you are firing at its base, so be sure you take out its propulsion units to disable its flight.
Tools are used to re-position the player, so be sure to keep an eye on their use while playing.
There are a variety of different foods that can be cooked by the player, each with their own unique properties. As you level up in your food earned, you can keep an eye on your food inventory at any time.
Pressing the ‘Use’ button will switch between weapons while you are holding them.
The ‘Jump’ button will quickly (at the cost of your shield) jump to a new position.
The ‘Reload’ button will allow you to quickly reload the current weapon.
The ‘X’ button will open up the information menu.
The ‘Tab’ button will move between options inside the information menu.
The ‘Info’ button will open the option menu, while also showing the player’s stats (level, armour, weapon and shield) and health.
The ‘Pause’ button will pause the game while also showing the player’s stats (level, armour, weapon and shield) and health, as well as a snapshot of all creatures in the world.
The ‘Sprint’ button will give the player a quick boost in speed, which will last for a certain amount of time.
The ‘Keep’ button is used to keep safe in one spot for a short amount of time.
The ‘Buy’ button will allow the player to buy weapons and armour from a shop.

While playing, make sure to make note of the rules to remember for every puzzle you play. In Hexterio the rules never change, but in other games, they might. The rules and their definition are as follows:

Break a rule (and lose the game):The final tile must be directly adjacent to another tile on its same row, and the tile on its right must be black. The final tile must also be directly adjacent to another tile on its same column, and the tile on its left must be solid.

Combining rules (and gain a life):Whenever you match the previous rules, any of the tiles you destroy will not count towards the final score.

Special rules:If you reach the final tile on the exact opposite of your goal (from your starting tile), then that tile will not count towards your score. Additionally, you will get a bonus score of 5 points.
